This year we are celebrating World Pride in Sydney with our new collection and an amazing campaign that will raise money for Helem, a Beirut-based organisation that provides crisis support and legal assistance to LGBTQIA+ people in the Middle East.
"Pride together" is our new collection featuring artwork by Brazilian born artist Murilo Manzini, who has been a part of the La La Land family for the last 5 years. We asked him to create an artwork inspired by Pride. He used loose free brush strokes to symbolise the freedom they have fought for, and tried to use as much colour as possible to reflect their colourful vibrant community.
Whilst we celebrate how far LGBTQIA+ rights have come in Australia, we reflect on how much work there is left to be done especially in countries in the Middle East where people have restrictive civil rights and are vulnerable to punishment, imprisonment, violence, discrimination, isolation, hostility and abandonment.
This year we will be donating a portion of proceeds from our Pride Together collection to HELEM - a charity that helps LGBTQIA+ people through its support services such as counselling and psychological support, emergency response in dangerous situations, case management (advocacy through legal aid), housing (queer friendly safe houses) and mental health support including group therapy sessions.
HELEM is the first LGBTQIA+ rights organisation in the Middle East. Established in Beirut, Lebanon in 2001, its mission is to represent, protect and lead the liberation of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Intersex, Transgendered, Queer (LGBTQIA+) and other people with non-conforming sexualities and/or gender identities in the Middle East and the SWANA region.
In addition to donating a portion of proceeds from this collection to HELEM, Murilo has generously provided his original 45 x 45 cm artwork he painted for this collection, to be auctioned off with all proceeds raised to be donated to HELEM. We will be hosting an online silent auction on Sunday 20th of February where you can submit a bid to win your very own Murilo Manzini x La La Land original artwork. Inspiring happiness is a fundamental value of La La Land and together with the work of HELEM we hope this collection can empower, represent, support and care for LGBTQIA+ people.
This collection aims to let you celebrate your pride whether you are part of the LGBTQIA+ community or want to show your support as an ally. The Pride Together Collection was created with love and care by our team who are also part of the LGBT community and we're really proud to share this new range with the world.
