As kids, our new school year was always heralded by a new bag filled with shiny new stationery and books. It was an exciting fresh start to the year, and the possibilities were endless. Here at La La Land, we all agree that a new tote bag is much more fun than a new year’s resolution, so in the spirit of research, we each set out to track down our idea of the perfect new bag.
ELIE'S FAVOURITE TOTE BAG
My favourite tote bag is:
Well, strictly speaking it’s not a tote bag but I’m sneaking it in anyway. Not all guys would want to carry a tote bag. So, my favourite ‘not a tote bag’ is the Carter Mini Backpack from Mad Rabbit Kicking Tiger.
Why I love it:
You can tell the bags are designed by architects. They are modern, slim, simple but edgy.
Its best feature:
It's a backpack that is slim enough to carry as a briefcase and I LOVE the colour. It's not often you find bags with beautiful colours. Life is too short to carry a black bag everywhere.
I'd pack it with:
My head phones and charger all tucked up in my cable organiser, my La La Land notebook, my business cards, a pen, sunnies, keys and Solid State perfume.
On its first outing, I'd take it to:
My favourite café - Roastville Marrickville.
I'd be wearing it with:
This burnt terracotta orange bag would be a perfect match with most of my outfits, as I wear a lot of natural colours and navy blue tones.
LILLY'S FAVOURITE TOTE BAG
My favourite tote bag is:
My favourite tote bag is The Berber Tote by The Wolf Gang, a great Aussie label.
Why I love it:
I love how the playful pom poms contrast against the sophisticated design.
Its best feature:
Colourful pom poms & the multi length handles for all occasions!
I'd pack it with:
The essentials: sunglasses, headphones, lip balm, some key doodling utensils in my Major Mitchell Cockatoo purse, and my ‘Small Pleasures’ book for a bit of pocket wisdom.
On its first outing, I'd take it to:
Most likely work, and if I'm really lucky, a nice date to the MCA art bar!
I'd be wearing it with:
I'm pretty sure everything would look amazing with this bag, but I'd have to go with my Neuw Marilyn pants and UNI QLO white linen button up.
LUDI'S FAVOURITE TOTE BAG
My favourite tote bag is:
I’m going with Elie and choosing a backpack so my favourite ‘not a tote bag’ is the Backpack Handbag Hybrid in Blue, White & Red Colourway from Anello Japan.
Why I love it:
I love it because it is super practical yet aesthetically pleasing!
Its best feature:
You can carry it as a backpack and a handbag :) It also has lots of internal pockets.
I'd pack it with:
My glasses and sunglasses, my wallet & phone of course and my lip balm & lip gloss. I also always carry a refillable water bottle, which would fit in a side pocket.
On its first outing, I'd take it to:
I am going to France in July so I would take it out on a trip with me!
I'd be wearing it with:
My casual travelling clothing: striped navy and white T-shirt, jeans & tan loafers.
MILENKA'S FAVOURITE TOTE BAG
My favourite tote bag:
The Hennie Market Bag in black, from St Agni - a beautiful Byron Bay label.
Why I love it:
I love that the size fits all my daily needs, and the colour palette, materials and design are simple and versatile. It is light and transparent and allows airflow. It is different and innovative in its rattan material. It is simple, timeless and both practical and aesthetic.
Its best feature:
The combination of rattan and leather to make it suit any occasion and the everyday.
I'd pack it with:
I would keep my La La Land coin purse, my Turkish towel, baby swimmers for my baby Duke, coconut oil, vintage market straw hat, my favourite poetry read, headphones and black cockatoo notebook from La La Land.
On its first outing, I'd take it to:
I would walk down to my local rock pool at MacMasters Beach with my one-year-old and my dog Salty for a family swim.
I'd be wearing it with:
My Ward Whillas Faye Swimmers in black and white zig zag with Ponds slides and Assembly Label white dress.
